Ever wondered if you could be a Voiceover Artist?
Here are some Quick Start Facts for aspiring Voice Artists to think about:
-
Home Studio - Voiceover Artists need somewhere to work from. Most have a studio at home, which you can build yourself. Find my 5 module, step-by-step course on how to set up as a Voiceover Artist from home and build a home studio from scratch here.

-
Demo Reel - Clients need to hear your voice. You will need a demo of your voice to send to prospective clients - a demo showcases your voice so clients can hear what you sound like. All Voice Artists - from beginners to pro's - have at least one demo that showcases their voice. It doesn't necessarily have to be a real job, but it should show you at your best.

-
Studio Hire - The alternative to a home studio is to hire a studio on a job by job basis. There are lots of Production Studios dotted around so a quick online search will point you in the right direction in terms of booking a studio near you, for any voice work you get. Remember to ask them if the studio and microphone are suitable for voiceover work - you will need access to a Condenser Mic for Voiceover. If you book a studio, ensure you have it for enough time to record your script comfortably so you are not rushing it. Also ensure it is a reputable studio because safety and quality equipment is paramount.

Performance Coaching - is helpful because I can hear your voice and we can play with your style and see what works for you. Then I can provide you with a finished reel to showcase your voice. Contact me to ask about it.

-
Practice - There is no substitute for practice. As an aspiring Voice Artist, you will need to practice scripts to keep your skills fresh. Its a competitive market so practice, practice, practice! Some Voiceover Artists use audition sites to help them practice. They audition for jobs and that is their practice. Practice should be regular, not once in a blue moon.
-
A Voice Artist website - You will need a website to showcase your talent and services. Potential clients need to hear your voice and know how to contact you. Your website is your shop window where you can share your voice and your work - I upload audio demo's to my Voiceover website and I also link to videos, ads and promos i've done which often show up on Youtube. Wherever possible, I link to my work so potential clients can hear it on my voiceover website: www.britishactorvoiceover.com

I build all my websites myself - its really easy to do. There are plenty of free platforms to help you do this: Wix.com, Godaddy, squarespace to name but a few. Most platforms offer templates for website building and you just follow the instructions. It's never been easier to build your own website.
Tech - To setup a home studio, you will need a
Condenser Microphone with cradle and pop shield,
a mic stand, an audio interface, a computer,
speakers and headphones so you can hear your
work properly.
You will also likely need sound proofing materials,
a table or shelf, chair, a music stand for your scripts
and a quiet space in your home where you can build
a small noise-proof home studio.
You will also need a programme to record into
like Adobe Audition, Audacity or Pro-tools.
